Hawk of the Week: Doc Rivers

1983-84 to 1990-91

Stats as a Hawk:

13 PPG, 6.8 APG, 2.1 SPG, 45% field goal percentage in 30.5 minutes per game

Before the Hawks:

Doc Rivers was a standout at Marquette, where he averaged a solid, but not spectacular 13.9 points and 4.6 assists per game over his three seasons as a Golden Eagle. Before then, he was named an All-American for his athletic prowess during his four years at Proviso East High School in Chicago, Illinois. Rivers bypassed his senior season at Marquette, and declared for the 1983 NBA Draft. The Atlanta Hawks, desperately searching for a franchise point guard, selected Rivers with the 31st pick in the 1983 NBA Draft.
