In his first season in the NBA, Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks established himself as one of the best passers in the NBA. In the best rookie season in franchise history, Young was top 4 in three notable assist statistics: assists per game (8.1, 4th), total assists (653, 2nd) and assist rate (40.5%, 3rd) – not a bad showing for an undersized rookie that the Hawks traded down to obtain.
In a recent interview with Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Young spoke about how he believes his passing ability to be overlooked and underrated, considering that scoring will always be more highly regarded by the masses than being a strong distributor.
