Al Horford announced on Twitter Tuesday that he will not play for the Dominican Republic in the upcoming FIBA Americas qualifying tournament later this summer.
In a letter written in Spanish, the Dominican-born Horford thanked his fans and wished the team good luck in the tournament. He said he'll focus on recovering after the long NBA season and continuing to improve his game.
Dominican Head Coach Kenny Atkinson, who is on Hawks Head Coach Mike Budenholzer's staff, said at NBA Summer League that he thought Horford was "50/50" on playing.
Atkinson will hold a two-week Training Camp for the team in Atlanta before heading to Mexico City.
