The Atlanta Hawks are looking to build on last season's 60-win campaign, and are hoping to find the pieces necessary to take them to the NBA Finals in free agency. Here's the latest surrounding the Hawks:
DeMarre Carroll signs 4-year, $60 million deal with Toronto
Atlanta lost one member of their starting lineup early Wednesday when small forward DeMarre Carroll announced that he was signing with the Toronto Raptors. Toronto has been looking for a small forward for the past two years, and Carroll with give them the defensive stopper they desperately lack. The Hawks simply didn't have the means - or desire - to match the money the Raptors were offering, though they did want Carroll to return.
Hawks acquire Tiago Splitter in trade with Spurs
Atlanta got Splitter has the headliner in a small trade with San Antonio, opening up new possibilities for the Hawks lineup. Playing him at center would allow Al Horford to play power forward, which is his natural position, while also adding much-needed depth to Atlanta's frontcourt.
Paul Millsap to decide between Hawks, Magic
The Orlando Magic and Atlanta Hawks have both offered Paul Millsap a 4-year, $80 million contract, and he's deciding between the two teams. He is reportedly very interested in joining the up-and-coming Magic, who have sold him on being the missing veteran piece necessary to take them to the playoffs, but he made his mark on a very good Atlanta team, and he feels the Hawks have unfinished business.
