Like many veterans, Joshua Dickey and Walter Taylor have found it difficult to achieve normalcy in a world that doesn’t include heavy armor, deadly gunfire and military-esque structure. Both fought in Iraq; Taylor spent a year in Afghanistan, too. They experienced war in the most intimate way possible and, as a result, suffer from post traumatic stress disorder.
Dickey has been having a particularly hard time of late. Stress levels have been high. Getting help from the VA hasn’t been easy. But for three and a half hours on Wednesday afternoon, he was able to clear his mind during the ninth annual Fishing with the Falcons event, as he and Taylor cruised the waters of Lake Lanier with Matt Bryant and Josh Harris, catching striper and sharing laughs.
