New Orleans native Deion Jones will fulfill a lifelong dream when he plays inside the Superdome on Monday night. The Atlanta Falcons rookie middle linebacker just wishes his grandmother could be there to watch.
Jones was 10 years old when Hurricane Katrina demolished a good portion of the city in August of 2005. Jones and his parents immediately evacuated to Magnolia, Mississippi, to stay with his mother’s side of the family. In the process, his father’s mother, Montrell Jones, went missing for days. She eventually resurfaced in the Dallas suburbs after initially taking shelter inside the Superdome.
