FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said the team plans to pick up the fifth-year option for left tackle Jake Matthews, the Falcons' first-round draft pick from 2014.
"It will happen eventually," Dimitroff said of picking up the option. "That's kind of on our back burner right now. We're, as you know, historically we're particular about the guys that we think are important pillar parts of our organization, and he is one of those."
The deadline for Matthews’ fifth-year option to be picked up is May 3. The Falcons' primary focus now is next week’s NFL draft.
