When the Los Angeles Chargers kick off in Atlanta on Sunday, it will be one of the rare instances of the Falcons facing a non-divisional opponent whom they have beaten more often than not. The Birds currently lead the all time series against the San Diego turned Los Angeles Chargers with an 8-4 scoreline.
Things were actually all Falcons up until the mid 2010s, as they won a staggering eight of the first nine matchups during a sequence which started with a 41-0 blowout in 1973, and continued through 2012.
The Chargers’ only victory in this time period was a 10-7 squeaker in 1988 behind Gary Anderson’s 172 yards from scrimmage.
