The roster is set, at least for today. Now the Atlanta Falcons have to assemble a practice squad.
As the size of the practice squad has ballooned in recent years, those spots have remained really important. Practice squad players serve as needed depth for the grind of the long NFL season, and it also gives the Falcons the chance to stash players they really like but simply couldn’t fit on the roster for further development.
There are a number of worthy candidates among Atlanta’s own cuts. Cornerbacks Kevin King and Natrone Brooks had strong preseason efforts, wide receiver Chris Blair was terrific, and Barry Wesley offers versatility along the offensive line that can be incredibly valuable in the face of injury.
