Our ongoing podcast series reviewing the Thomas Dimitroff years for the Falcons continues today with his efforts in the 2012 season. This season featured a team that would go 13-3 and ultimately fall just short in the NFC Championship game against the 49ers.
To examine this season, I was joined by Matt Karoly. We talked about the moves made by the GM and why this season was the precursor to some rough seasons ahead.
Topics included:
- Letting guys like Curtis Lofton and Eric Weems walk, and why the latter may have been the more egregious of the two
- Keeping around guys like John Abraham and Todd McClure for one more year and why it directly led to the success of the 2012 season
- Dimitroff finally having to pay players he drafted, including Kroy Biermann, Thomas Decoud and Harry Douglas
- The great trade for Asante Samuel and signing Robert McClain, and how both moves saved a secondary that lost Brent Grimes
- The unfortunate draft class that includes Peter Konz and Lamar Holmes
- So much more
