The Atlanta Falcons are expected to fire head coach Mike Smith after the 2014 NFL season, per a report by CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.
According to La Canfora, "Falcons owner Arthur Blank has informed multiple parties that he plans on moving on from head coach Mike Smith at the end of the season, sources said, and it would take a shocking playoff run to alter that scenario. Blank has also told some confidants that, for now, he expects to retain general manager Thomas Dimitroff, though it could be revisited through the hiring process."
If Blank indeed relieves Smith of his duties, Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase could be the team's prime target to replace him this offseason. Per La Canfora, "the Falcons are doing due diligence on includes Denver offensive coordinator Adam Gase and Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels," with Stanford's David Shaw also a name in consideration.
Gase's name has popped up on several occasions in connection with the job, so don't be surprised if Blank looks to skew younger and gives Gase his first NFL head coaching opportunity.
