Monday morning news:
Superutilityman Whit Merrifield and the Atlanta Braves are in agreement on a major league deal, sources tell ESPN. Merrifield was released recently by Philadelphia. He’ll join the Braves today and help provide depth after the injury to All-Star second baseman Ozzie Albies.

Makes sense for the Braves. They’re already down Acuna and Strider, now Albies, who is going to miss eight months with a broken wrist. Dave Dombrowski just let go of Merrifield, so they bring the guy in and see if he can rediscover his Toronto form.
