I want to preface this piece by telling you that I considered many different topics upon which to write today, but given the solemn nature of the news yesterday, it feels disingenuous to write about anything else right now.
Major League Baseball was dealt a blow on Monday that has become all-too-familiar in recent years. The harrowing sadness of Tyler Skaggs’ passing feels like a sobering splash of reality for all those who follow the game. Degrees of separation between ourselves and Skaggs do nothing to numb the reality that struck us all upon learning of his death: baseball is a game, and the players within it are much more than sources of entertainment for fans.
