DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers claimed second baseman Nick Solak off waivers from the Atlanta Braves on Friday.
Solak was optioned to Triple-A Toledo.
To free up a 40-man spot for Solak’s acquisition, right-hander Spencer Turnbull was transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Solak, 28, spent most of his career with the Texas Rangers, where he was an everyday player as recently as 2021. Since the end of the 2022 season, he’s been purchased or claimed off waivers five times, including brief stops with the Cincinnati Reds, Seattle Mariners, Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves.
He played in one game as a pinch-runner for the Braves on April 26, but has otherwise spent the 2023 season in Triple-A.
