This Day in Braves History: July 1
1961 - Reds first baseman Gordy Coleman collects eight hits in a doubleheader sweep over the Braves. Cincinnati wins the opener 8-5 as Coleman collects five hits including a three-run homer off of Warren Spahn in the 13th inning. Coleman adds three more hits in the second game as the Reds win 4-3.
1970 - Cincinnati defeats the Braves 9-2 as Tommy Helms becomes the first Reds player to homer at Riverfront Stadium.
