Former Saginaw Heritage star Spencer Schwellenbach threw a quality start Monday, but the second-year right-hander was not around when the Atlanta Braves earned the win.
Schwellenbach struck out five and did not walk a batter, completing seven innings in the Braves’ 7-6 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Schwellenbach allowed eight hits and three runs, two of them earned.
He left with the Cardinals holding a 3-2 lead before Atlanta scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 7-3 lead. St. Louis scored three runs in the top of the ninth for the final score.
