Former Saginaw Heritage star Spencer Schwellenbach came up with the best outing of his Major League Baseball career Saturday, shutting out the New York Mets in a 4-0 win.
The Atlanta Braves rookie struck out a career-high 11 hitters and allowed just two hits in seven innings to improve to 4-5, ending the Braves’ six-game losing streak. The 11 strikeouts in one game were the most for Schwellenbach since he played for Heritage.
Schwellenbach, who was a special guest Friday on the MLB Network, did not give up a walk, throwing 62 of his 89 pitches for strikes.
