The ballots are in and for the first time ever there a player has been a unanimous selection. Former Yankees’ closer Mariano Rivera received all 425 votes from the baseball writers to take his spot among the game’s greats.
Joining Rivera in the 2019 Hall of Fame class are former Mariners’ DH Edgar Martinez and right-handers Roy Halladay and Mike Mussina. They join Lee Smith and Harold Baines who were elected earlier this winter by the Today’s Game era committee. The induction ceremony will be held on July 21 in Cooperstown, NY.
Rivera is the first unanimous selection in Hall of Fame history.
