Both Ryan Vogelsong and Tyrell Jenkins have featured versatility for their clubs this season, making relief appearances in addition to starts. But, both are being pushed into starter duty tonight in the rubber game of the series. This will be Vogelsong's first start since he was hit in the face with a pitch on May 13.
It almost goes without saying that major league starting pitchers are pretty fragile these days. That's not great for those pitchers, nor for baseball, but it does create opportunities for other arms who manage to remain healthy to slide right in and gain major league starting experience, even when they weren't originally expected to do so.
