PHILADELPHIA - Aaron Nola was brilliant and came within one out of his second career nine-inning shutout Sunday, delivering a much-needed 2-1 win over the Atlanta Braves and allowing the Phillies to split the four-game series.
The right-hander hit for himself in the bottom of the eighth inning and took the mound in the ninth with a 2-0 lead at 106 pitches. He struck out Ozzie Albies and induced a line out to left from Freddie Freeman before Austin Riley ripped a 1-2 pitch into the right-center field seats to make it a one-run game.
