SAN DIEGO -- Braves right-hander Williams Perez made an abrupt exit after signaling trainer Jeff Porter to come to the mound during the bottom of the fifth inning of Monday night's series opener against the Padres at Petco Park.
Immediately after surrendering a Matt Kemp double that gave the Padres a 5-1 lead, Perez walked slowly away from the mound without showing any apparent sign of discomfort. But he then looked into the dugout to get Porter's attention.
Perez exited after sharing a brief conversation with Porter and manager Brian Snitker. He allowed six earned runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.
