On this date 26 years ago, the Braves boasted a record nearly identical to the 2015 edition: 59-92 then, 57-90 now. That night, Gary Eave, a pitcher very similar to Williams Perez, held the Astros scoreless through 7-2/3 innings, allowing just two hits (albeit with six walks).
The offense was supplied by two future franchise cornerstones who, up to that point, had done little to impress. Ron Gant, batting .176, and David Justice, recalled earlier that day from Richmond, homered in the 4th off 20-game winner Mike Scott to give the Braves a 2-0 lead. It was Justice’s first career homer.
