Open thread, 9/12/93, #Braves vs. Archi Cianfroccos

The ’93 Padres were basically the 2015 Braves. They came into the finale of a home series vs. the Braves 33 games under .500. The Bravos, winners of 17 out of 20, won 13-1 the night before to take the division lead for the first time since April 13.

San Diego’s line-up on Sept. 12 was a farce. No Sheffield or McGriff. Not even Tony Gwynn, who had the day off. Derek Bell, batting clean-up, started at 3B for some reason. Rookie Scott Sanders was on the mound facing Steve Avery, having his best season.

Yet somehow the Pads led 5-3 going into the 9th.
