NL East offseason in review: Mets re-sign Cespedes but otherwise quiet

One could argue the Mets were the NL’s biggest disappointment of 2016.

Coming off an NL pennant run, expectations were sky-high in New York. They ended up going 87-75 and claimed a wild card spot before falling to the Giants in the dumb wild card game. Not a bad season by any means, but not the one Terry Collins was looking for.

Injuries to the starting rotation certainly played a part. If everyone comes back healthy, it may be the National League’s best. That’s a big ‘if’, though.

The Nationals were really good, too, and out-paced the Mets from start to finish.
