While it appears to be a forgone conclusion that the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians are headed for new mascots, baseball’s Atlanta Braves and the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks won’t be joining the movement.
After political and financial pressure, the Redskins revealed last week a plan to review their nickname and several outlets have reported a change is inevitable. The Indians followed with a similar plan to review.
According to the Athletic, the Braves are considering eliminating the “Tomahawk Chop” the controversial chant pantomiming a hand raising and lowering a traditional native hatchet. It has been criticized both in Atlanta and at Florida State.
