The Mets opened up their first Grapefruit League game of Spring Training with a 4-3 win over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday at First Data Field.
Here are the takeaways from the game:
Peter Alonso looks as advertised
The Mets' top prospect is competing for the starting first base job and wasted no time making the case in his first at-bat.
The 24-year-old slugger crushed a first-pitch fastball over over the cameramen left of the center field wall for a game-tying, two-run home run in the second inning.
Alonso, who had 36 home runs in the minors last year (Double and Triple-A combined), finished 1-for-2 with a walk but his defense remains a concern.
