The Marlins designated Masset to create a roster spot for Henderson Alvarez, who lost, 6-0, to the Braves after he was activated from the disabled list on Sunday.
Masset posted a 1.86 ERA, recording six strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings for Miami this season. These numbers are somewhat deceiving given the fact that opponents batted .324 and compiled a .341 on-base percentage against him.
Still, in an attempt to infuse some experience into their bullpen, the Braves rolled the dice on Masset, who posted a 3.32 ERA over the 273 appearances he made for the White Sox and Reds from 2008-11.
