Braves pitcher Kevin Gausman has been suspended five games and fined an undisclosed amount of money for throwing at Marlins pitcher Jose Urena, the league announced on Monday. Gausman is appealing the suspension and will still pitch this evening in LA.
As a reminder, Urena, who intentionally threw at Ronald Acuna last year and nearly broke his elbow in the process, was suspended for six games, which is one more than Gausman and doesn’t really do anything but give the pitcher an extra day of rest between starts.
The suspension itself is not a surprise and has been fairly standard from the league over the years.
