Jake Steels is the personification of a local-ballplayer-stays-local, makes good saga.
The Atlanta Braves drafted the center fielder Tuesday in Round 18 of the Major League Baseball Draft. En route to being drafted to become a professional baseball player, Steels was a baseball standout at Righetti High School, Hancock College and then Cal Poly.
"I'm Orcutt born and raised," said Steels. "From youth baseball on up." Steels also played football at Righetti and was a big play wide receiver and solid defensive back for the 2018 Righetti football team that reached the CIF Central Section Division 2 final under then-coach Tony Payne.
