When Tyler Flowers went down due to injury and Kurt Suzuki got hit by a pitch and had to miss some time, the Braves were in pretty desperate need of help at catcher. The Braves front office were proactive and went and acquired Carlos Perez by trading away Ryan Schimpf so that SOMEONE could actually serve as a backup for the team.
For the most part, Perez served that role reasonably well in that he at least could play the position. However, with Suzuki being both red-hot and healthy, Perez making one of the worst tag attempts you will see against the Reds, and the return of Tyler Flowers, Perez was no longer needed.
