ATLANTA -- What had the makings of an easy win for the Braves evolved into a crushing loss after Freddie Freeman had seemingly entered just in time to save the day.
Brandon Phillips' two-run homer in the ninth off A.J. Minter served as the crushing blow for the Braves, who surrendered six runs during the ugly eighth inning of Wednesday afternoon's 9-8 loss to the Red Sox at SunTrust Park.
Making his first start of the season back in his hometown and against the team that employed him for much of last year, Phillips once again showed a flair for the dramatic, as he hit his game-winning homer approximately five minutes after Freeman had given the Braves a lead with his two-out solo homer in the eighth.
