In a game full of big moments, it may be Francisco Alvarez’s defense that provided the most important ones in the Mets’ 3-2 extra-inning win over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night.
With Chris Sale dealing and the Mets bullpen holding the Braves lineup down, it wouldn’t take much to break a 2-2 tie late in Thursday’s game. And Atlanta would have their chances, but Alvarez and the Mets defense foiled both.
The first came in the ninth inning after Eddie Rosario’s leadoff walk.
