NEW YORK -- Braves pitcher Mike Foltynewicz had a portion of a right rib removed Monday afternoon to alleviate the blood clots that were found in his right arm this past weekend.
The Braves announced that Foltynewicz underwent a surgical procedure to remove the anterior half of his first rib. Dr. William Mayfield performed the procedure at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga.
Foltynewicz will undergo further evaluation over the next couple of days and could be released from the hospital Thursday. Once released, he will be on blood thinners for at least six weeks.
