Felix Mantilla was one of the last living connections to the Milwaukee Braves, but his legacy in Milwaukee remains strong

His career may have taken Felix Mantilla elsewhere, and the Major League Baseball team for which he played left town after the 1965 season. But Milwaukee never stopped being home for Mantilla, the last living regular on the 1957 World Series champion and the 1958 runner-up Milwaukee Braves.

Mantilla, a native of Puerto Rico who stayed in Milwaukee and left a youth-baseball legacy, died at age 90 Friday after a battle with prostate cancer.

His death was felt across the city's landscape, with the Milwaukee Brewers and mayor Cavalier Johnson offering condolences.
