ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis Cardinals setup man Jordan Walden will be shut down for six to 10 weeks for a strained muscle in his right shoulder.
The 27-year-old was placed on the 15-day disabled list last week and the decision was made Wednesday after a second opinion.
The Cardinals say the injury will not require surgery.
Walden was acquired from the Atlanta Braves in November along with outfielder Jason Heyward and has a 0.87 ERA in 12 games.
