CHICAGO -- This season certainly has not gone as well as Eric Young Jr. had hoped. But the veteran center fielder gained some encouraging news on Saturday, when he learned the Braves traded him to the Mets for cash considerations.
Young began this season as Atlanta's starting center fielder, but Cameron Maybin assumed that role on May 2. Young has been with Triple-A Gwinnett since mid-June and there were no plans for him to join Atlanta's roster at any point this season.
The Mets will likely primarily utilize Young as pinch-runner over the remainder of the season.
