July 22 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Braves agreed to a one-year, $8 million deal with free agent utility player Whit Merrifield.
Sources told ESPN, The Athletic and the New York Post about the agreement on Monday. Merrifield's contract includes a club option for $8 million in 2025, with a $1 million buyout.
Merrifield, released July 12 by the Philadelphia Phillies, hit .199 with three home runs, 11 RBIs and 11 stolen bases through his first 53 games this season.
The three-time All-Star hit .272 with 11 home runs, 67 RBIs and 26 stolen bases last season for the Toronto Blue Jays.
