Terry Pendleton turns 60 today, which if you remember his entire playing career as the author does, makes you feel extra old.
It was 30 years ago this winter that Pendleton signed with the Atlanta Braves as a free agent after spending the first seven seasons of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals. The 30-year-old third baseman was coming off an injury-plagued 1990 season in which he batted just .230/.277/.324 (an OPS+ of 65!) in 121 games, but was paid the princely sum of $10.2 million for four years (plus a $1 million signing bonus) — the richest contact in Braves history to that point.
