It’s Thanksgiving Day, and of all the blessings Atlanta Braves fans might like to count about their team today, something that didn’t happen 30 years ago should probably rank pretty high on the list.
In late November and early December of 1990, the Braves discussed several trades that would have involved giving up Tom Glavine. Yes, that Tom Glavine — two-time Cy Young Award winner, 1995 World Series Most Valuable Player, 300-game winner, first-ballot Hall of Famer.
All of these talked-about deals were reported on in the dominant form of mainstream media of the time — print newspapers — though it’s anyone’s guess how far along the discussions actually got.
