This week would normally mark the MLB trading deadline, so it seems like a good time to look back on two trades that went a long way toward determining the direction of the Atlanta Braves in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Those two trades are the Mark Teixeira trade of 2007 and … the Mark Teixeira trade of 2008. On July 31, 2007, the Braves acquired Teixeira from the Texas Rangers in a seven-player blockbuster, then dealt him to the Los Angeles Angels in a three-player deal less than a year later.
Both trades had far-reaching implications for the Braves in the years after their run of division titles ended in 2006.
