The Braves would move their spring training facility from the Orlando area to St. Petersburg in 2018 under a proposal submitted to Pinellas County officials, the Tampa Bay Times reported on Tuesday.
A letter from Braves president John Schuerholz is part of the Aug. 31 proposal, the Times reported. Schuerholz wrote that the team has “significant interest” in reaching an agreement by the end of the year, with construction to begin by next year and completion scheduled for the 2018 season.
A Braves spokesperson said the team has no comment on the proposal.
The Braves have trained at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla, since 1988.
