Apparently, the old baseball adage is true: if you're a lefty with a pulse, you can be a major-league pitcher, and have a lengthy career to boot.
In 1993, The Braves signed a 16-year-old Chinese-Panamanian pitcher named Bruce Chen as an amateur free agent. Prior to 1999, Chen had been rated the fourth-best major-league prospect by Baseball America; he was named a Southern League All-Star and was the Braves' minor league pitcher of the year in 1998.
Chen debuted for the Braves in 1998 and spent 42 games covering 111 innings with them before being traded to the Phillies in 2000.
