The Braves have released Matt Adams from the organization, the team announced Thursday afternoon. Adams was most recently with the Braves’ satellite site in Gwinnett.
Adams was hastily signed in the week before the season began upon the sudden opt-out of Nick Markakis. While a productive offensive player for a majority of his career, Adams’ production began to decline in 2019 and he was downright unplayable in this shortened 2020 season, batting just .184/.216/.347 with a 44 wRC+ and 35 percent strikeout rate across 51 plate appearances. He was worth -0.5 WAR, an astounding number considering how infrequently he played.
