After a 12 inning game on Friday, the Atlanta Braves are adding a fresh arm to the pitching staff on Saturday recalling left-hander Sean Newcomb from the team’s alternate training site. Newcomb began the season in the team’s rotation but struggled and was demoted after just four starts. The numbers were ugly as he surrendered 20 hits and 17 runs in just 13 2/3 innings. Newcomb’s last appearance in the majors came on August 10. He has drawn some good reviews for his work at the alternate site since being demoted.
To make room on the active roster, the Braves designated left-hander Robbie Erlin for assignment.
