With Freddie Freeman indefinitely sidelined because of COVID-19 Yonder Alonso immediately becomes a much more important player in the organization as he’s the only first baseman in the minors that has major league experience.
Despite a relatively strong 10 year career in which Yonder has hit .259/.332/.404 the Braves were able to sign him to a minor league deal because he was coming off of a disastrous 2019 campaign in which Yonder hit a combined .199/.296/.346 in 121 games but did connect on 10 homers but that 67 wRC+ and below average defense netted him a -1.2 fWAR.
