Braves place Johnson on DL with right groin strain

ATLANTA -- As Jim Johnson spends at least the next two weeks recovering from a right groin strain, the Braves are hoping left-handed reliever Ian Krol will help provide some much-needed stability to the bullpen.

Before Tuesday's series opener against the Phillies, the Braves placed Johnson on the 15-day disabled list and recalled Krol from Triple-A Gwinnett. Matt Tuiasosopo was also designated for assignment to create a roster spot for Gordon Beckham, who was activated from the disabled list.

Johnson has allowed eight earned runs over his past three innings (four appearances).
