Braves place Bartolo Colon on the DL with an “oblique strain”

When the Braves signed Bartolo Colon in the offseason, it was done with the goal of him being a reliable “innings eater” type that the Braves would not have to commit to a long-term deal with so that when the young stable of arms coming up through the farm system were ready, they could join the rotation and not be blocked. Colon had been a solid to decent pitcher despite his age up until this season and while the price wasn’t exactly a bargain, it seemed reasonable that, at the very least, Colon would not be embarrassing every 5th day.
