The Braves optioned Ryan Schimpf to Triple-A on Sunday morning as the club continued to trim its roster.
Schimpf is not having a strong spring. Including his time with Tampa Bay, he’s 0-for-30 with 19 strikeouts. He was 0-for-16 with 11 strikeouts with Atlanta. Add in two errors at third base on Saturday and it seemed like his days were numbered.
Schimpf has shown he can be a playable big leaguer over the last two years, but (clearly) he needs to fix a few things before getting a chance to show what he can do.
Johan Camargo remains the heavy favorite to see most of the time at third base moving forward.
