The Atlanta Braves built an early lead but were unable to sustain it in a 6-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox in Friday’s series opener. Atlanta will try again on Saturday with Sean Newcomb scheduled to get the start.
Atlanta’s outfield had a different look in Game 1 in Boston with Nick Markakis moving over to left field and Ronald Acuna Jr. shifting to right.
As expected, the Braves placed LHP Luiz Gohara on the bereavement list and recalled Matt Wisler from Triple-A Gwinnett. Gohara is returning to Brazil where his mother is recovering from heart surgery.
