The Atlanta Braves finally found their outfielder. The team agreed to a one-year deal with Nick Markakis that also contains a club option for the 2020 season. Markakis will make $4 million this season. The 2020 option is worth $6 million and contains a $2 million buyout.
Alex Anthopoulos spoke with reporters shortly after the deal with Markakis was announced. He discussed the reasoning for bringing back Markakis along with his role for 2019. Anthopoulos added that signing Markakis at a reasonable price will allow the team to seek other upgrades.
Many thought the Braves would make a move soon but bringing back Markakis wasn’t what they were expecting.
